As part of the sun-care series, I’ve been itching to write up a review of the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream products ever since I bought them a month ago. My first post, as part of the ‘Sun Series’ was touching on the differences between Physical and Chemical sunscreens and I wanted to take this concept a step further and into the realm of makeup. After much exploration, I have finally found the best sun-protective makeup that I have tried to this date. For those sun-sensitive, makeup lovers out there who have been trying to layer up suncream and foundation, you will know that this is no easy accomplishment without makeup separating on your skin within 1-2 hours of application. I have tried many combinations of foundations and suncreams but this product is one of the best on its own as well as for use on top of a suncream. The formula of the IT COSMETICS CC Cream product line impresses me so much; it’s a physical sunscreen as well as a beautiful foundation in one. It contains the highest sun protection factor with a rating of SPF50+, lending it to giving your skin some seriously top protection.
IT Cosmetics have been earmarked as pretty darn amazing since they launched and thus far, every product I have tried from this brand has impressed me. I am totally obsessed with the ‘IT Cosmetics Complexion Perfection Brush‘, and I mean obsessed. The softness and blendability of this brush is really heavenly. Oh and the ‘IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara’ is glorious!!! But anyway, I’m rambling. What were we talking about again? Oh yes, the incredible face products I was about to tell you about…
- IT COSMETICS Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream Illumination SPF 50+
- IT COSMETICS Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+
As I mentioned earlier, I accepted a quest to search far and wide for a sunscreen and foundation combination that doesn’t separate on my skin throughout the day. Ok, who are we kidding, the quest was brought upon me, for me, by me. Being as fair-skinned as I am, I am very sensitive to the sun. I have been known to get a mild sunburn after only 15 minutes of being in the sun. I want to protect my skin and do what I can to prevent photoaging (ageing of the skin from the sun). As I mentioned in my previous article, wearing a foundation or moisturiser that contains SPF alone is a good start but it isn’t adequately protecting you from the UVA and UVB rays throughout the day (espesh not in Australia). I recommend using a sunscreen product underneath your foundation and then using a foundation that contains SPF where possible. DOUBLE WHAMMY!
As I favour using a physical barrier on my skin for sun protection, the task of finding the right matching combination of products is even more challenging. So a thought popped into my mind that perhaps I should look for a foundation/base type product that features similar ingredients, as like goes with like, right? Browsing aisles of products and examining the ingredients list has lead me to try the IT COSMETICS CC+ Cream Product Line (to be lovingly referred to as “IT” from here on in). The first 2 ingredients listed on the packs are Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide which are both active physical sunscreen ingredients. Because the sun protection ingredients are the same in “IT” as physical sunscreens, the product seems to sit and wear beautifully throughout the day when layered over suncream. Maybe my theory holds up?
I did not anticipate that when I would buy this product, I would jump in with both hands and buy two versions of it – ‘Your Skin But Better’ CC Cream (which I call the regular one) and the ‘Illumination CC Cream’ version (which I call the luminous one). In hindsight, I would have had to buy 2 anyway, since the shade range is limited (more on that below). It began when I received the wrong sample of “IT” from my local Sephora. I was after the regular one but was given the illuminator version accidentally. The next morning, I went about doing my makeup and I was a tad confused as I remember swatching the product on my hand in-store and there definitely was no visible sheen in the product, though my face looked absolutely luminous (not in a bad way, but in a great way). I went back to the store to see if I had been given the right product sample that morning and when I caught a glance in the mirror, I was really floored with how glowy and healthy my skin appeared. I really didn’t expect to love it as much as I do. So this is how I came to try out the luminous one.
I tried the shade “Light” in Illumination and it was a touch dark for me so I decided to try the ‘Your Skin But Better’, regular CC Cream in “Fair” and mix up a concoction to match my skin tone. The unfortunate thing is that such an amazing product has such a limited shade range with only 5 colours available. From each shade to the next, there is quite a big jump (as you can see in the image below) so not all skin tones are catered for here. I have to mix equal parts of “Fair” and “Light” together to get a match that suits me. I have decided on the shade “Light” in luminous and “Fair” in regular. and I use 1/2 and 1/2 to get the right shade and to add the glow.
Upon closer scrutiny of the Illumination CC Cream in direct sunlight, it does have some very finely milled micro-glitter particles in the formula. However, you really can’t notice it unless you inspect the product incredibly close. When applied on the face, the luminous particles disperse beautifully leaving you with a uniform skin tone which is radiantly beaming. “IT” provides a medium coverage on first application and is buildable so you can just add more product where you need more coverage. It also covers redness really well. I like to use a damp Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to apply the CC creams as this helps to create a sheer, blended and undetectable, yet luminous and even complexion.
I also have all spankingly-good things to say about “Your Skin But Better” CC Cream. The CC cream actually colour corrects (DUH! That’s what CC stands for), covers any discolourations, yet still gives a dewy and hydrated finish, even though there are no illumination particles. Both products are good hydrators as well, as they contain hyaluronic acid which is known to retain moisture in the skin. They both don’t cling to dry patches and are amazing for normal, combo and dry skin types.
The big question on everyone’s lips – Would I repurchase? Hells Yeah! I love these products and whilst I never ever buy products that require me to mix up to get my shade (due to laziness and $$), in this case, I have made an exception.
Tip – If you mix some of the ‘luminous’ one into other foundations that don’t typically sit well on top of sunscreens, it gives a dewy and glowy complexion and also helps the product to sit on the skin without separating. Also, if you just mix it into other foundations, sans sunscreen, it will pep up the foundation and illuminate your base.
A few other honourable product mentions:
- Awesome tinted moisturiser that also sits well on top of sunscreen = NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser
- Awesome sunscreen (Chemical), still protects and works tremendously well under makeup = Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF 30+
- Awesome sun protection (Physical) with extra glow that can be used in lieu of tinted moisturiser (but only if you have clear skin) or under foundation = Rationale Beautiful Skin Luminizing Super Fluid SPF50
